If you qualify as the following, you should apply for the Johns Hopkins Neuroscience Scholars Program: self-identified as underrepresented or deaf/hard-of-hearing (D/HH), interested in pursuing PhD or MD/PhD in neurosciences field, demonstrate strong dedication and alignment to our values, and are committed to conducting 10-weeks of research during the summer.
The admission process goes as follows: students are selected for the program after a series of steps to ensure that your experience includes the brightest minds possible. The series of steps includes an application screening, interviews, and an invitation to participate based on the availability of mentors. Interns must undergo a health screening, criminal background check, and training in the protection of human subjects, as well as the responsible conduct of research. With the global population steadily increasing life longevity, it is imperative that we make progress in finding a solution to this increasing burden on the U.S. healthcare system. The approach of Johns Hopkins Neuroscience Scholars Program is multi-faceted and consists of the following: to aid in the development of urgently needed therapies and cures, to generate better and more impactful solutions, and to represent minority groups who are underrepresented in this innovative field. We strive to mentor, develop, and foster scientific skills, personal growth, and intellectual curiosity from underrepresented and deaf / hard of hearing (D/HH) backgrounds into PhD or MD/PhD programs in the neurosciences. We seek to diversify the workforce to better facilitate innovation and solutions to the neuroscience field.
